Turnbull made a shock move to Chelsea in July 2009 when his contract with Middlesbrough expired. The move to Stamford Bridge was a big surprise to Boro too, as the player had claimed he was leaving for first team football which he would not get with Chelsea.

He is a towering and promising young goalkeeper who joined Boro as a trainee in 2002 and came through the ranks to join the first team for the 2003-04 season.

His first taste of senior football, however, would come in a loan spell at neighbours Darlington. He made his debut, at the age of 18, in a goalless draw with Torquay United in mid-November 2003.

Capped at England under-19 level Turnbull was then to spend time on loan with Barnsley (twice), Bradford City, Crewe Alexandra and Cardiff City.

He finally made his Premier League debut in a 1-1 draw at Bolton Wanderers on May 3, 2006.

With Mark Schwarzer leaving Boro ahead of the 2008-09 season, Turnbull looked to have the chance to prove himself. After being first choice for the first half of the season he lost his place to Brad Jones after the turn of the year, prompting him to look for a new challenge. Whether playing number two at a club such as Chelsea is really a challenge is another question.

Turnbull is a former England Under-20 international.

The goalkeeper plays for both the Chelsea reserve and youth teams and was capped by Wales Under 21s at the age of just 17 in 2008.

He is brave and comfortable with the ball at his feet, and while he cemented his position in the reserves, he was also ever-present in the Under 18s run to the FA Youth Cup Final.


Making the step up to the first-team, he was an unused sub for three games in the Premier League during the Christmas and New Year period 2007-08.

He was loaned to Queens Park Rangers in November 2009.

Hilario signed for Chelsea in July 2006, having previously played under José Mourinho in the Portugese league.

Signed from Portuguese side Nacional Madeira, Hilario was brought to the Blues as cover for Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini. And he has had a few outings as both have succumbed to injury during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Seemingly happy to sit on the bench since his arrival, Hilario was thrown into the first team for Chelsea's Champions League re-match with Barcelona after both Chelsea goalkeepers sustained injuries in the Premiership match with Reading in October 2006.

Hilario ended up making 18 appearances in 2006/07 and played 3 Premier League matches during 2007/8 as well as a subs role in the Champions League against Fenerbahce.

Mourinho had even suggested Hilario may play as a striker in the 2007 FA Cup final due to a shortage of strikers - but things didn't quite get that bad!

On the wrong side in a penalty shoot-out in the 2007/8 Champions League Final and an amazing comeback from the Turks at Euro 2008, Cech suffered a torrid few weeks during the summer of 2008.

His previous assurance looked in question, especially in contrast to the fact that since moving to Chelsea, Cech has earned a reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

His size and agility have made him hard to beat, and has made an already strong Chelsea defence, at times, impenetrable.

The Blues set a new Premiership record for clean sheets in 2004/05, keeping out the opposition for nine successive games. Cech did not concede a goal for 871 minutes, eclipsing Peter Schmeichel's record.

Cech's personal record is even longer than that, since he went 928 minutes unbeaten at Sparta Prague.

Those performances led to him being one of the nominees for the PFA Player of the Year award in his debut season.

Cech's career was threatened in October 2006 when following a sickening collision with Reading's Stephen Hunt he suffered a fractured skull. This ruled him out of action for three months - during which time Chelsea's defensive record deteriorated.

The goalkeeper now has to wear protective head-gear as a precaution - and he freely admits he may continue to wear it for the remainder of his career. He returned to Chelsea's team as they lost out to Manchester United for the 2006/7 title but won the FA Cup Final against the same opponents.

Cech, a commanding figure with good handling, began his career with FK Chmel Blsany, making his bow in 1999 before moving on in 2001, to Sparta for £465,000.

Cech's international debut came against Cyprus in February 2002 - and he went on to be a crucial figure in the side which won European Under-21 Championship that year.

He kept a clean sheet against France in the final and also saved two penalties in the decisive shoot-out.

He moved to France in the summer of 2002, joining Stade Rennes for £3.3million.

The Czech Republic international officially moved to Chelsea at the start of July 2004, in a £7million deal from Rennes.
